Provides Freedom and Dignity!
If we hadn't found the Flight Suits website we
don't know what would have become of our pigeon,
Norman. Norman was only about 2 or 3 weeks old when
I found him shivering under my car in June of 2005.
He still had his fuzzy yellow baby feathers. When
I bent down and told him to "come out of there"
while patting the ground with my hand to get his
attention, he came right over and hopped ONTO my
hand!
I knew he had already been orphaned and decided
that if I took him home and he was able to feed
himself he would become part of the family. He could,
and did. Norman lived in the house at night and
outside during the daytime while we were at work.
We'd always assumed that eventually Norman would
probably fly away some day as there were other flights
of pigeons in the area... my husband and I were
working in the back yard and Norman was following
us around as usual, but around 4 pm he flew toward
the south end of the neighborhood and didn't return
that night...
The next day my son call me from school to tell
me that Norman had been at the Elementary during
recess after their lunch hour. Robert had actually
caught and held Norman but had no way of detaining
him because he had to get back to class... Finally,
the third day of Norman's travel adventure I left
work for my lunch hour, which coincided with our
son's, and headed for the elementary school 15 minute
away. Sure enough, the sound of little kids' voices
drew Norman over to the playground...
I wasn't allowed onto the school grounds without
a pass while the kids were out so I waited while
I watched Robert's entire body disappear into the
now much larger group of kids. Seconds later he
burst out of the center with his hands held high
in the air clutching NORMAN!!! He shouted, "I GOT
HIM, MOM, I GOT HIM!!" He rushed Norman over to
me and I brought him to our house, only a block
and a half from school.
I knew as I brought him in the house that he wouldn't
be allowed to "play outside" anymore without a leash
and I also knew that meant finding either a really
big cage (not my most favorite word or contraption)
or some sort of diaper for him in order to keep
him in the house full time. Hence the internet search
and thank God I found the Avian Fashions' website.
Norman is now a happy one and three quarter year
old house pigeon, who sleeps UNDER THE COVERS with
our son, just like a small lap dog. He's the most
lovely pet I think we've ever had in any of our
lives and Avian Fashions made it possible for us
to keep him and for him to keep his freedom to live
in the WHOLE HOUSE and his dignity.
